Brakes 101
Pictured in Diagram 1 is a typical brake rotor mounted on its hub assembly. When you want to stop the car you press on the brake pedal. The brake pedal is attached to the brake master cylinder (not pictured) and pressurizes the brake fluid, sending the fluid into the brake caliper. The brake caliper holds two disk pads, one on each side of the brake rotor. The pressurized fluid squeezes the brake pads onto the brake rotor and that squeezing action causes the car to slow down.
In Diagram 2 you can see that there are many small parts. When we service your brakes we inspect these parts and clean and lubricate them as needed. It is essential that the brake pads moving freely on the abutment clips. The pin bolts must be clean and lubricated to ensure optimal pad wear and minimal noise. But a quality repair also requires quality brake pads and rotors. We use only the highest quality parts from European manufacturers like Balo, Brembo, Jurid and Textar. And for those seeking the very highest quality brake pads we install Akebono ceramic pads. Akebono pads wear extremely well and seldom make any noise. And best of all, they produce almost none of that unsightly black brake dust you often see on the front wheels of European cars.
