Reduce fuel consumption. Save money. Help the environment.
Here are Rick’s Top Ten Fuel Saving Tips:
1) Drive the speed limit.
Driving 65 mph versus 75 mph reduces fuel consumption 10-15%.
2) Keep your tires properly inflated.
Tires typically lose several pounds of pressure between service visits, especially low profile, high performance tires. Stop by The Motor Works anytime and we’ll gladly check your tire pressures!
3) Use the correct oil.
Synthetic oils reduce internal friction, save fuel (compared to conventional oils) and are changed less often, reducing the amount of waste oil that will have to be recycled.
4) Avoid lengthy warm ups.
When your engine is cold it produce copious quantities of pollution and use lots of fuel. Start the engine, let it run for 5 seconds and you’re ready to drive off.
5) Clean out your trunk.
All those books you’ve been planning to take to the used bookstore are the equivalent of driving around with a couple of dead bodies in the trunk. (It's tough on the rear shocks, too.)
6) Be smooooth.
Avoid aggressive acceleration and braking. Anticipate traffic lights.
7) Avoid rush hour traffic.
Avoiding rush hour traffic will reduce the amount of time spent idling and going nowhere. It will also reduce your stress level and your exposure to exhaust gases.
8) Service your vehicle regularly.
A dirty air filter drastically affects fuel mileage and performance. (And they’re cheap!) Change spark plugs on schedule. A “Check Engine” light often indicates a problem that kills your fuel mileage.
9) Turn off the air conditioning when not needed.
If you set your climate control to “AUTO” your air conditioning is still running and using fuel. Pressing the “ECON” button when you do not need air conditioning will improve your fuel mileage.
10) Most importantly -
calculate your fuel mileage every time you buy gas. Changing your driving habits is the most significant way to permanently reduce your fuel consumption.
